This isn’t a permanent departure. But I don’t know when I will return.
I went under the knife yesterday – yep, got a new knee. I assume all went well and I am getting a little snooze in before going home. At any rate, Job One for the next couple months will be physical therapy. I will undoubtedly turn to my favorite bloggers to take my mind off the pain (feel free to amuse me).
Secondarily, I really need to knuckle down and get the next draft of my gold rush book done. It’s been languishing far too long.
Then, there is another spring research trip to plan, collecting sources for that work and the Elias D. Pierce biography.
There are a few final posts for 2019 scheduled. And I have many ideas for future posts, so I will be back! In the meantime, I will feature some of my favorite older posts on my home page, so drop by and see if there’s something you missed.

Thanks, LA. I will miss writing for the blog, but the things I write seem to take a crazy amount of time. By my calculation, I’ve averaged more than 10 posts a month for the past two years. Whew!

Good luck, speedy recovery too. Dr C has had both knees replaced, separately, a couple of years apart. It’s made a huge difference to her quality of life so hoping it’s the same for you too. 👍👍

This is a bittersweet post to read. I’m selfishly wanting you here with us, but this time away will provide you with the chance to finish what will be a winner of a book. AND get back to your butt kicking self, which I know you will.

Oh gosh, I hope all is going well. How is your recovery or don’t you know yet? I hate to hear about your temp leave of absence from blogging, but I do understand. We will miss you while you’re gone. That would be great. What I’ve heard about the knee surgeries is that if you do the PT the way they want, you will do best. The most compliant patients seem to do well with knee surgery.

My wife had both knees done two years ago. Recovery went quick and well. I wish you the same luck and a Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year.
