History in the Making (A Poem to Build On)

By Eilene Lyon

Generally, I will stay away from politics. This is a history blog, right? But history is in the making every day. Also, I am by no means a poet. With that in mind, I’ve begun this poem, but really think it needs more verses. I’m sure you can help!

He Says With Conviction

“I can pardon myself,” says the Liar in Chief,

Yet people still ask me, “What’s your beef?

He’s the leader we need.”

Oh, can I please get relief!!

“America First” is the flag that he waves.

Yet Ivanka’s goods in the East are the rave.

So when ZTE misbehaves,

“Oh no, it’s Chinese jobs we must save!”

When the EPA head guy, Scott Pruitt,

For first class airfare, issues an edict,

Then fingers point, he just shrugs,

“Actually, my staff made me do it.”

Your turn to jump in with additions in the comments below! (For my readers who are Trump fans, please feel free to change the tone with your own contributions – I love a dialogue!!)

  1. It sh/t you get mixing blonde with orange and having apples in your snout, when opposition speaks its mind shouting fired all about, the chief will say the darndest things of which we make no sense, just looking forward to the day we speak of him past tense.

  2. “You’ll get tired of winning!”
    This promise he kept
    He beat Mother Nature
    And public lands wept.

    More jobs we were promised,
    “I’ll save coal and oil!”
    But Eco jobs flounder
    The earth he’ll despoil.

  3. (After his resignation…)

For a man used to flying first class
Scott has crashed down to earth, alas,
He tumbled from grace, fallen flat on his face,
But Scott has a cat-like abiilty to land on his ass..
