Absurdities #12

By Eilene Lyon

As I was driving into town in the morning, I saw a cluster of at least 10 deputy sheriff and Durango police SUVs escorting an all-black bus heading the opposite direction. The bus wasn’t like a large tour bus, but the size of the shuttles at the local ski area.

All the cop vehicles had lights flashing, a couple blaring sirens. Was this really necessary? Ten escorts? Lights and sirens? What are they doing–calling attention to some VIP going to the airport?

There was hardly any traffic or other impediments. Did they think a few stoplights would make M. VIP late for their private flight? Surely they weren’t going commercial–there are no first class sections on planes flying out of the Durango-La Plata Airport.

My tax dollars, hard at work.

  1. Well my first guess is that it was Lauren Boebert, a not very bright, LOUD, pushy, person trying to make a big splash by saying she was going to “SHAKE THINGS UP IN CONGRESS” on her first day there. But then it could also have been Adam Frisch, sadly, running behind, trying to unseat her~!

    1. We do elevate security to an almost ridiculous level. And it’s so obvious that “here’s somebody important, let’s make them a target.” I wonder what our early presidents would think about it.

    1. Overkill. Totally unnecessary. That bus would have gotten where it was going in almost the same time even without an escort. Surely one or two police vehicles would have been sufficient.
